Helen A. Schwartz, 89, of Bloomington, IL passed away Thursday, November 20, 2014 in Bloomington, IL. She was born January 12, 1925 in Thomasboro, IL to Arthur and Marie (Schlorff) Mayer. She married Russell E. Schwartz June 29, 1947 in Champaign, IL. Helen was employed by Sears for 30 years and retired in 2009. She has lived in the Kankakee area since 1947 and was a member of Our Savior Lutheran Church and former member of the Women’s Guild. Her favorite things to do were bowling, dancing and shopping.

Helen is survived by her son Mark of Rhinelander, WI, and her two daughters; Dawn Nickens of Bloomington, IL and Lisa and Mark Wagner of Downs, Illinois. Also surviving are 7 grandchildren; Peter and Jamie Schwartz, Anna and Ryan Hanson, Karl and Julie Schwartz, Heidi Schwartz, Seth Wagner, Paige Wagner and Mackenzie Nickens and 9 great grandchildren.

She was preceded by her parents, husband, one brother Arthur J. Mayer, one sister Marie Margaret Mayer.

A gathering of family and friends will be Monday, November 24, 2014 at the Kankakee Chapel of the Schreffler Life Story Funeral Home from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. A funeral service will be Tuesday, November 25 at 11:00 a.m. also at the Kankakee Chapel of the Schreffler Life Story Funeral Home and Rev. Patty Hearst will officiate. Burial will be 1:00 p.m. Tuesday at Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery in Elwood, IL. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to family wishes.
