Alareka Block

Alareka Block, age 80, went home to be with her Lord on November 18, 2014. Alareka was born February 24, 1934 in Kalamazoo, the daughter of Theodore and Grace (Holthouse) Mejeur and has been a lifelong area resident. For several years she was employed with Clark/Eaton Corporation prior to her retirement. She was a member of the Texas Corners Bible Church. For 18 years she enjoyed traveling and wintering in Texas. The most important part of her life was her loving and caring times she spent with her family. On February 13, 1953 she was united in marriage to Wayne A. Block, Sr. who survives. Also surviving are their three children, Charlene (Robert) DeBoer, Wayne A. (Kristine) Block, Jr. and Marcia (Chris) VandenOever; grandchildren, Jacob (Sarah) DeBoer, Tiffany (Ryan) Ridgley, Andrew Block (fiance Lauren Prince) , Katie (Aaron) Herrera, Stephen VandenOever and Kenneth VandenOever; great-grandchildren, Ryan, Matthew, David, Ethan and Levi DeBoer, Jaxson Herrera and Easton Ridgley; siblings, John (JoAnne) Mejeur, Trena Meyers, Anna Ruth VanderWeele and Theodore (Jan) Mejeur; nieces and nephews. The family will receive friends from 2-4 and 6-8 PM on Thursday, November 20th at the Langeland Family Funeral Homes, Portage Chapel, 411 E. Centre St. Funeral Services will be held 11:00 AM Friday at Milwood Christian Reformed Church, 3306 Lovers Lane with Pastor Clayton Smith officiating. Interment will be in Mt. Ever-Rest Memorial Park South. The family wishes to thank those that lovingly cared for Alareka at the Adult Day Services at Oakland Centre, Amber Place and Rose Arbor. Memorials in Alareka's memory may be directed to Rose Arbor Hospice or Adult Day Services at Oakland Centre.
