Hersa Mary Alverson, age 99, of Campobello, South Carolina, formerly of Holland, went to be with her Lord and Savior, Thursday, November 6, 2014 surrounded by family at home.

She was born March 22, 1915, in Holland, Michigan where she lived most of her life. She was a member of First Baptist North Spartanburg in South Carolina and was previously an active member of Calvary Christian Reformed Church in Holland. Early on she taught Sunday school and was involved in Bible Study Fellowship, Coffee Break and Prison Fellowship ministries. She volunteered at Lakeside Vista Retirement Home and the Holland City Mission. Hersa worked at the Tulip Time Office as secretary and as a seamstress making Dutch Costumes. She also worked at H. J. Heinz Co., Northland Bowling Lanes, and retired from the housekeeping department at Hope College. She was preceded in death by her husband Joseph, her sons Marvin and Terry and her daughter Frances Ann.

She is survived by her children: Joyce and John Rookus of Wayland, Joseph and Linda Alverson of West Olive, and John and Nancy Riley of South Carolina; daughter-in-law Jean Alverson of Holland; sister-in-law Louise Resseguie of Arkansas; 13 grandchildren; many great and great-great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be 11:00 am, Saturday, November 22, 2014 at Calvary Christian Reformed Church, 400 Beeline Road, Holland with the Reverend Stephen Lane officiating.

Burial will be in Pilgrim Home Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 2-4 and 7-9 pm, Friday, November 21, 2014 at Dykstra Funeral Home - Northwood Chapel 295 Douglas Ave in Holland and from 10-10:45 am prior to the service.

Memorial contributions may be made to Calvary Christian Reformed Church Building Fund, Prison Fellowship Ministries, or a charity of your choice.
