Lois (Bolt) Kidd of Ann Arbor, formerly of Kalamazoo and Ionia, passed away October 20, 2014 at the age of 97. She was born in Bismarck, North Dakota on September 7, 1917, daughter of Minnie Lois Hanson Bolt and Cornelius Frederick Bolt. The family moved to Muskegon Heights, Michigan in 1921 where her father became the principal of Muskegon Heights High School, a post he held for 33 years before his retirement and subsequent death. Lois graduated from Muskegon Heights High School in 1935 as salutatorian of her class. She entered Michigan State University where she was graduated in 1939 with a BS degree in home economics. In 1939, she accepted a position as a foods and clothing teacher in the Ionia High School. On January 29, 1941, she married Frederick M. Kidd Jr. of Ionia. Lois most loved taking care of her home and raising her three daughters. She was a wonderful cook and an accomplished seamstress. She was active in the Girl Scouts serving on the Ionia board and the Michigan Trails Council in Grand Rapids. She also served for many years on boards and woman's associations of the First Presbyterian Church of Ionia, where she was a member. She was a past member of the Ionia Women's Literary Club, the Ionia Historical Society and the Ionia County Memorial Hospital's Marsh Guild. In 1990, she moved to Kalamazoo where she resided for the next 16 years as a member of the Bronson Place Retirement Community. She became an affiliate member of the First Presbyterian Church in Schoolcraft. For the past eight years, Lois has resided in Ann Arbor. She was preceded in death by her husband, Frederick, in 1989. She is survived by three daughters, Lois (Walter) Scott of Pinckney, Margaret (Perry) Gregory of Ionia and Carol (Donald) Duczyminski of Portage; grandchildren Theodore Scott, Andrew Scott, Christine Black, Karen Duczyminski and James Duczyminski; step-grandchildren Amy (Ryan) Smith, Betsy (Piers) Cooper, Dianne (Michael) Honel; great-grandchildren Sydney Black, Elizabeth Scott, Lauren Scott; step-great grandchildren Logan Smith, Lillian Smith, Autumn Nelson, Denver Nelson, and Dallas Nelson. She is also survived by her sister-in-law Kathleen Welch; a niece, Ann Louise Williams; and a nephew, James (Amy) Welch. There will be a service for family at the funeral home at 1pm Thursday, October 23 with burial following at Balcom Cemetery, Ionia, Michigan. In lieu of flowers, memorial contribution may be made in Lois' memory to the First Presbyterian Church Ionia, Michigan and the First Presbyterian Church in Schoolcraft, Michigan.
