Scofield, Maxine Kalamazoo Maxine (Kent) Olds Scofield passed away on Thursday, October 16, 2014 in Kalamazoo, MI. She was born in Berrien County, MI, November 12, 1913, the daughter of R. Leslie and Dolly Kent Olds. Maxine graduated from Kalamazoo Central High School, where she was a member of the National Honor Society, Quill and Scroll, and cast of the 1931 Commencement play. She graduated from Western Michigan Teachers College with a life certificate and a Bachelor of Arts Degree in 1946. While there, she was Junior Class Secretary, a member of the Alpha Chi Omega sorority, Forensic Board, Women's Varsity Debate Squad and the Forensic Team of Competitive Speech and Debate. After college, Maxine taught in Lawton and Parchment, MI. She married M. Winthrop Scofield of Jackson, MI on June 28, 1936 in Waterveliet, MI. He was born in Jackson, MI on 1909 and graduated from the University of Michigan with an MBA degree and as a 2nd Lt., after being the top ROTC cadet at the university. He volunteered for active military duty on December 7, 1941 and served on active duty until 1946. He continued in the Army Reserve for many years thereafter, retiring with the rank Full (Bird) Colonel. In addition to working on Wall Street and as a farmer, he also served as the Kalamazoo County Treasurer. Maxine also served for approximately for 10 years on the Comstock Township Board of Review. Maxine was preceded in death by her parents and husband. Maxine is survived by her sons, Leslie, of Stone Mountain, GA and Kent, of Kalamazoo, MI. A private burial took place at Ft. Custer National Cemetery, next to her husband, Col. Scofield, who died in 1995. Arrangements by Langeland Family Funeral Homes, Memorial Chapel, 622 S. Burdick St., Kalamazoo.
