Gladys B. Hubbard, age 96, passed away Sunday, September 28, 2014 at Ridgewood Care Center. Gladys was born November 17, 1917 in Kenosha, WI, the daughter of the late Walter and Barbara (Nee: Romanowski) Dragancewicz.

Gladys was a graduate of St. Luke’s School of Nursing and was employed as head nurse in the new mothers department at St. Luke’s Hospital until World War II. She enlisted in the United States Army Nurse Corps and was commissioned 1st Lieutenant. Gladys served with the 13th General Field Hospital in the South Pacific. She was the proud recipient of the Philippines Liberation Medal and the Asiatic Pacific Medal with one battle star for service in the Battle of New Guinea. After her discharge she returned to nursing at St. Luke’s Hospital.

In 1948 she married John Hubbard and continued working part time while raising three children. Gladys was a member of Holy Communion Lutheran Church, Veterans of Foreign Wars, P.E.O., Washington Park Women’s Golf Leagues, Retired Nurses Association, and Army 13th General Hospital Association.

Survivors include her children, Kathleen (Rudy) Wahlen, Barbara (Craig) Martin, all of Racine, John Jr. (Jean) Hubbard of Sanford, NC; her grandchildren, Sarah (Brian) Blake, Samantha Hubbard, Stephanie Hubbard, Michelle Martin, Kyle Martin; brother-in-law, Howard Boese; nieces, other relatives and many dear friends. In addition to her parents and husband she was preceded in death by her sisters, Elsie (Harold) Rose, and Jenny Boese.

Funeral services will be held Friday, October 3, 2014, 12:00 P.M. at Holy Communion Lutheran Church, 2000 West 6th Street, with Rev. Mark Doidge officiating. Interment with Full Military Honors will follow at Graceland Cemetery. Relatives and friends may meet with the family Friday at the church from 11:00 A.M. until time of service at 12:00 P.M. In lieu of flowers, memorials to Holy Communion Food Pantry or to V.F.W. Post 1391 have been suggested.
