BARINKA, Jerry John Passed away on Thursday, September 18, 2014 at the age of 91. Jerry was born in Kalamazoo on November 17, 1922, the son of the late Joseph and Theresa (David) Barinka. He served with the United States Army during World War II. He retired from the James River Company after 38 years of service. He was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church and the V.F.W. He enjoyed fishing, hunting and bowling. Jerry was married to Vivian Lavanda (White) Barinka; she preceded him in death in 1975. He is survived by two daughters, Mary Lou Barinka-Feathers of Kalamazoo and Linda (George) Barinka-Keeler of Kalamazoo; three grandchildren, Amber (Randy) Ford, Angel (John) Phillips and Donald West Jr.; three great-grandchildren, Sami Ford and Piper and Paisley Phillips; a special friend, Terry Keviett; one sister, Edith Wunderlin; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by one son, Ronald Lee Barinka; one brother, Joseph John Barinka, Jr.; and one sister, Emma Wojdyla. The family would like to thank the all of the doctors, nurses and volunteers that gave Jerry such great loving care. Friends may visit with the family from 2-4 and 6-8 PM on Tuesday, September 23, 2014 at the Langeland Family Funeral Homes, Portage Chapel, 411 East Centre Avenue, Portage, MI 49002, where a Rosary Service will be held at 7:30 PM. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 AM on Wednesday, September 24, 2014 at St. Joseph Catholic Church, 936 Lake Street, Kalamazoo, MI 49001. Msgr. Michael Hazard will officiate with interment in Mt. Ever-Rest Memorial Park. Military honors will be conducted by the Comstock V.F.W. Post # 6252. Memorial contributions may be made to St. Joseph Catholic Church or a hospice organization of the donor's choice.
