Joyce Baxter

Joyce Elaine Baxter of Kalamazoo passed away Tuesday afternoon, September 16, 2014 at the Rose Arbor Hospice Residence. Joyce was born September 26, 1928 in Plainwell, the daughter of Leigh and Inez (Wilcox) Faunce. Joyce worked all her life and did many things; from short order cook to plastic mold operator, but what she enjoyed most was working part-time at Doughtery's Corner Market. She enjoyed feeding the birds, and other animals that would show up at her feeders. On November 2, 1956, she was united in marriage to her loving husband of 51 years, James Baxter, who preceded her in death on December 19, 2007. She was also preceded in death by a son, Daniel Travis, Jr; and her six siblings. Joyce is survived by her children, Leigh (Tina) Baxter, Starr (Bill) Waldron, Ralph (Sharie) Baxter; seven grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. A service to celebrate Joyce's life will be held at 11 AM Saturday, September 20, at the Langeland Family Funeral Homes, Westside Chapel, 3926 South 9th Street with Rev. Jim Dyke officiating. Friends may meet the family Friday from 6-8 PM and one hour prior to the service at the funeral home. Interment will be in Hill Cemetery in Oshtemo following a light luncheon. Memorials may be directed to Hospice Care of Southwest Michigan.
