DONNA ROSE SPRUIT (Denhof), born July 25, 1925, passed away at Christian Rest Home on Tuesday, September 9, 2014.Donna was preceded in death by her husband, Raymond, her son, James, her daughter-in-law, Katy and her sister, Alah. She is survived by her sons, Richard (Marisa Fahnenstiel) Spruit, Daniel (Nancy) Spruit, Michael Spruit and her daughter-in-law, Susan Spruit. Donna’s grandchildren, whom she constantly told that she “loved them with all her heart” are Matthew, Raymond, Megan, Michael, Carole, Hillary and Jill. She is also survived by two brothers, Lou (Margaret Ann) Denhof and Gerry (Charlotte), Denhof, her brother-in-law, Norald (Bim) Holt, her Spruit brothers and sisters-in-law and many nieces and nephews. Donna attended Catholic Central High School and graduated from Mercy Central School of Nursing. Donna’s proudest accomplishment was raising her four sons after her husband Ray died when the boys were ages 8, 6, 4 and 1. When her youngest was in high school, she went to work full-time as a Public Health Nurse for the Kent County Public Health Department, a career in which she thrived and truly loved. She retired in 1990 to spend her time with her young grandchildren and had a busy and happy retirement of 24 years. Donna and Ray, in 1954, became Charter Members of the Holy Spirit Parish where she remained a member the rest of her life. Her Catholic faith was something she wore very proudly. Donna’s last two years were spent at Christian Rest Home in Grand Rapids where the staff gave her wonderful care and treated her with respect and dignity. Her family will be forever grateful to those caretakers. A Memorial Mass will be celebrated at 11 AM on Monday, September 15, 2014 at Holy Spirit Catholic Church, 2230 Lake Michigan Dr. NW. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that memorial contributions be made to Holy Spirit Parish or Christian Rest Home.
