Frances passed away Friday morning, August 22, 2014 at Maple Lake Assisted Living, Paw Paw. Frances was born November 26, 1915 in Rochester, IN the daughter of the late James A. and Verna E. (Hay) Walters. She was a graduate of the University of Pacific, Stockton, CA with a B.A. degree in speech and secondary education. Most of her career she was a teacher in secondary education and later the office manager of the Psychology Dept. San Francisco State College. She organized the Literacy Program in Lodi, CA and was the San Joaquin County Woman of the Year. She moved to Kalamazoo in 1995 and Paw Paw in 1998 to be closer to her daughter and became a member of First Presbyterian Church, Paw Paw. On June 17, 1945 in Bakersfield, CA, Frances was united in marriage to Charles J. Welch who preceded her in death on September 14, 1994. She was also preceded in death by two brothers, George and Harry Gordon. Surviving is a daughter, Gerry Stackhouse of Paw Paw; two grandchildren, Rebecca Stackhouse of Roanoke, VA and Elizabeth (Daniel) Williams of Lawrence, MI; two great grandchildren, Kelsey Filip and Jordan Filip; several nieces and nephews. A memorial service will be held Friday, 2 PM at the First Presbyterian Church, Paw Paw. Interment will be in Cherokee Memorial Park, Lodi, CA.
