John passed away in his sleep, quietly and peacefully, early in the morning hours of Friday, August 22, 2014. His sons were at his side. The fifth of eight children, John was born in East Chicago, IN on February 16, 1920. His parents Peter and Agnes (Sikora) Stassek bought a farm near Bloomingdale and moved the family there in 1927. John graduated from Bloomingdale High School in 1938 and served in the US Navy during WWII. After the war he met Isabelle Seymour in Ann Arbor, and the couple wed on November 26, 1949. Soon thereafter they moved back to the family farm, where they spent the rest of their lives. He was a deeply religious and spiritual man, a long-standing member of the Sacred Heart Parish in Bangor, a good husband and father, a knowledgeable and hard-working farmer, and a well-respected member of his community. He will be greatly missed, but he is back with his beloved wife Isabelle who died in 1984. He was also preceded in death by his parents; older brother Stephen; three older sisters Julia Mocklencate, Anna Ebertsch, and Mary Sabo; and four dear nieces and nephews Ronald Sweetland, Barbara Stevenson, John (Jack) Foster, and Sharon Stearns. He is survived by his two sons John (Debby) and Steve (Minnie) Stassek, both of Bloomingdale; three sisters Helen Gilbert and Joanne (Floyd) Rose, both of Bloomingdale and Irene Wiacek of Bangor; eight grandchildren; seven great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. The family will meet friends Thursday from 5-8 PM with a Rosary service at 7:30 PM at the BLOOMINGDALE CHAPEL, D. L. Miller Funeral Home, www.dlmillerfuneralhome.com.

Mass of Christian Burial will take place Friday, 11 AM at Sacred Heart Cathloic Church, Fr. Rob Johansen, Celebrant. Interment will follow in St. Francis Xavier Cemetery. The family suggests memorial contributions be made to the St. Vincent DePaul Society.
