Throughout his rich and rewarding life, William Frasier made the most of the days he was given. He was a man of great honor and integrity who wasn’t afraid to put in a hard day at work. Bill was a man of many interests who enjoyed pursuing the things he enjoyed in his leisure time. He was intelligent and fun-loving with a quick wit that appeared from time to time. With a life that spanned times of great change in the world around him, Bill created a beautifully colored mosaic of memories with his loved ones that will remain forever near and dear to their hearts.

The 1950s were a colorful time in American history. Often referred to as the Nifty Fifties, these were exciting days when transformational changes were occurring. Rosa Parks brought civil rights to the forefront when she refused to give up her seat on an Alabama bus, and this was also the decade that we welcomed Alaska and Hawaii as our 49th and 50th states. During this time Elvis Presley took the music world by storm with his rock ‘n roll music while James Dean made young girls swoon on the silver screen. Amidst this exciting time was the year 1951 that was filled with unspeakable joy for a young couple from Detroit, Michigan, as they welcomed a healthy baby boy into their hearts and home on March 8th at Brent Hospital. William Joseph was one of three children born to his parents, Carl and Dolores Frasier, and he was raised in the family home alongside his older sister, Anne Marie and younger sister, Mary Frances. His father worked in production control at Chrysler Corporation while his mother was a secretary at General Motors in addition to caring for her family and home.

For the most part Bill experienced an upbringing that was a reflection of his generation. He was highly intelligent with a thirst for learning new things from an early age. He has been called a walking encyclopedia as he was a wealth of knowledge. On one occasion Bill was in need of punishment and therefore denied being able to go to Sanders with his family for ice cream. When his family arrived home, it was clear that he had been doing some reading since he asked, “Hey everyone, do you know how long the Mackinaw Bridge is?” While growing up Bill learned responsibility and a strong work ethic through having a paper route. He was a student at local schools who went on to graduate from high school. As a teen Bill was a member of the Redford Jaycees and enjoyed doo-wap music and Roy Orbison's Pretty Woman.

Like many young men, Bill served his country in the United States Air Force beginning in 1969. He was an air traffic controller who spent time serving in Korea from 1970 through 1971. Bill remained in the service until 1973. From that point on he was a lifetime member of the Disabled American Veterans. Additionally, Bill earned his associate’s degree in business from Schoolcraft College. He made a career with the United States Post Office, working in mail dispatch until he retired in 2011.

Although he never married, Bill did enjoy spending time with his family including his sisters and their families that grew to include four nephews, John, Brian, Robert, and Michael, and his niece, Jacqueline. Bill liked taking vacations which included trips to Northern Michigan, Tennessee, and upstate New York to visit family. He also enjoyed visiting Daytona Beach, Florida.

Throughout his life Bill was a man of many interests. He enjoyed being at home, but he also enjoyed doing social things as he bowled on a mixed league and played bingo. Bill was a music enthusiast who played the keyboard and was a member of the American Guild of Music. He was a fan of Tiger baseball, enjoyed trivia, and was a regular Red Cross blood donor.

At times Bill had a quick wit that made him so much fun to be around. Every day before going to work Bill would say, “Bye, Ma.” Ma would then say, “Bye, Bill.” Bill would repeat, “Bye, Ma,” and round and round they would go until Ma finally said, “Bill, you’re going to be late for work!”

All who knew William Frasier would agree that he was an extraordinary man to know and love. He worked hard, but he knew how to play just as hard, and his zest for life was hard to miss. Bill was a devoted family man who enjoyed being surrounded by his loved ones. He will be deeply missed while his memory is forever cherished.

William Frasier died on August 18, 2014. Loving son of the late Carl and Dolores. Dearest brother of Anne Marie (George) Duffourc and the late Mary Frances (John) Meredith. Dear uncle of John, Brian, Robert, Michael, and Jacqueline. Visitation Thursday 5-9pm with a 7pm Chaplet of Divine Mercy at our 30200 Five Mile location (between Merriman and Middlebelt).
