Arlene DeYoung

Arlene M. DeYoung, age 95, of Kalamazoo, MI died on Sunday, July 27, 2014. Arlene was born March 17, 1919 in Kalamazoo to the late Frederick and Lila (Burchette) Kooi. Arlene graduated from Kalamazoo Central High School. She was employed as a bookkeeper for Walgreens and also worked for Southerland Paper Company and the Blossom Flower Shop. Arlene was an avid fisherman and loved camping with her husband. On March 24, 1939 she married Harm J. DeYoung, who preceded her in death on August 3, 1998. Arlene was also preceded in death by two brothers, Richard and Jack Kooi. Surviving are three sons, Frederick and Iva DeYoung, Roger and Trish DeYoung and Gary and Nita DeYoung; several grandchildren, great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren and one sister, Shirley McTaggart of Oceanside, CA. A memorial gathering will be held at Joldersma & Klein Funeral Home on Tuesday, August 5, 2014 from 6:00 to 8:00 PM. Private burial will take place at Riverside Cemetery.
