John Kison

John went home to be with his Lord and Savior on July 24, 2014. He was born on April 8, 1940 to Paul and Alice (Kaminsky) Kison, who have preceded him in death. He graduated from St. Augustine High School in Kalamazoo and attended Western Michigan University. John will be remembered for his infectious smile and sense of humor. He was always looking for the "best deal " and his entrepreneurial spirit led him to owning his own auto body shop, home improvement company and Grandpa's Finest Scones business. He also worked in car sales for many years. John placed others first and had a caring heart. He was always willing to give a helping hand to those in need. He had a love for fishing, gardening and classic cars. His positive attitude carried him throughout his life, including his battle with leukemia. He never gave up. John was very proud of his children and grandchildren and delighted in being with them. They all held a special place in his heart. He was united in marriage to his wife Beverly (Gauthier) Kison on August 19, 1995 who survives. Also surviving are his children, John Kison Jr. (Three Rivers), Debbie Vellucci (Livonia), James (Lori) Kison (Marcellus), Paul (Darci) Kison (Portage), Greg (Nicole) Gauthier (Westmont, IL) and Brant Gauthier (Paw Paw); grandchildren, Katie Vellucci, Kelly Vellucci, Sam Kison, Jack Kison, Amber Gauthier, Jason Douglas and Mark Douglas and many cousins. Cremation has taken place. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, August 16, 2014 at Valley Family Church, 2500 Vincent Ave., with Pastor Jeff Jones officiating. Visitation will begin 10AM and the service will start at 12PM. A reception will follow the service.
