George E. Dowling, 79, of Hastings, died July 22, 2014 at his home surrounded by his loving family. George was born August 10, 1934 in Augusta to Edmond and Marguriet (Meachin) Dowling. He served honorably in U.S. Army as a Cpl. during the Korean War in the 89th Tank Battalion. He worked at Globe Construction for 31 years as a roller operator. George loved spending time with his family and friends and enjoyed many hobbies, including playing cards, traveling, camping and especially ice fishing. George is survived by his step-daughter, Rusty Moats of Springfield; two step-sons, Stanley (Yvonne) Johnson of Hastings and Charles (Mina) Johnson of Springfield, MO; eight grandchildren; ten great-grandchildren; five great-great-grandchildren; a sister, Alice Coleman and several nieces and nephews. George was preceded in death by his loving wife, Lucile Johnson, in 2008; four sisters and two brothers. Visitation will be Sunday, July 27, 2014 from 2-5 PM at the Farley-Estes & Dowdle Funeral Home, Augusta Chapel, where funeral services to celebrate George's life will be held at 10 AM Monday, July 28, officiated by Pastor Jeff Helbert. Interment will full military honors will follow at Ft. Custer National Cemetery. Those wishing to make memorial contributions are asked to consider Pennock Hospice, 1230 W.
