Harry A. McGowen, 85, of St. Anne, passed away Tuesday (July 22, 2014) at Miller Health Care Center in Kankakee.

Harry was born January 13, 1929 in Greencastle, Indiana, to Verne and Wilma (Van Cleve) McGowen. Harry married Betty Boland on February 10, 1951 in Danville, Illinois.

Harry was self-employed as a gunsmith and in 1968 began manufacturing rifle barrels. He retired in 2012. Harry enjoyed hunting and fishing and conversations with his many customers. He had a pilot’s license since 1973 and built his own home and several boats.

Surviving are his wife, Betty McGowen of St. Anne, two daughters, Gail and Dennis Mack of Columbia, Tennessee, Janice Courville and Ken Herter of Beecher, two sons, Mark and Terri McGowen of St. Anne, Bob and Karen McGowen of St. Anne, granddaughters, Jessica Courville, Stephanie Courville, and Montana McGowen, great grandchildren, Timothy Lowe and Lilly Courville, sister, Dorothy Eves of Logansport, IN, and dog Frisky.
