Alberta Marie Kunde, of Kankakee and formerly of Park Forest, IL, died July 21, 2014 at Our Lady of Victory Nursing Home. She was born March 6, 1922 in Clifton, IL to Einer and Dolly (Bell) Greenburg. Alberta married Aaron R. LaReau on March 1, 1941. He died May 2, 1944. Alberta then married Harold F. Kunde on June 27, 1947. He passed away on February 22, 1988.

Alberta was educated in various country schools and graduated with Herscher High School’s class of 1939. She raised a large blended family and later was employed in retail, banking and industry. She was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church in Kankakee, Riverside Twig Auxiliary, and the Bradley-Bourbonnais Senior Citizens. As president of the United Methodist Women, Alberta was also a member of the Sarah and Ruth circles. Her activities in community affairs included housing and beautification of properties in Park Forest. She was named a “Good Egg” in 1973 for her work with the Eastgate Residents’ Association. Alberta also enjoyed fashion, decorating, antiques, old movies, reading and live theatre.

Alberta is survived by her two sons and daughter-in-law, Michael and Janet LaReau of Bourbonnais and Paul Kunde of Park Forest, three daughters and one son-in-law, Karon Maehl of Kankakee, Mary and Bill Smith of Webster Groves, MO, and Connie Kunde of Kankakee. Also surviving are 11 grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren, her sister-in-law, Kathryn Greenburg, two special friends, Kathryn and Nathalie Friday of Albuquerque, New Mexico, and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents and husbands, two daughters, Carol Ann Dubie and Judith Lindquist, a grandson, Christopher Castiglia, her brother, Russell, and an aunt, Alberta Anderson.

Visitation will be Thursday, July 31 from 10:00 a.m. until the 11:00 a.m. service at Trinity United Methodist Church in Kankakee. Schreffler Life Story Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
