Edward Matthew Gladysz, 91, of Galesburg passed away on Monday, July 15, 2014, after a brief illness. He was born on February 22, 1923, in Paw Paw, MI, the son of Andrew Gladysz and Victoria Borzykowski Gladysz. Following his marriage to Margean Alice Worst in 1951, he settled in Galesburg, MI, to raise his family and remained there until 2004 when he and his wife moved to Friendship Village in Kalamazoo. Edward grew up on a farm and vineyard in Paw Paw and graduated from Paw Paw High School. He served in the Army during the Korean Conflict. A master electrician and engineer, Edward worked for several Kalamazoo-area paper companies, including Sutherland, Brown Paper Company and White Pigeon Paper. He attended Western Michigan University, working toward an engineering degree. He was also an Army trained and licensed surveyor. While raising his family, he was active in Little League, Boy Scouts and 4-H and was a member of the all-volunteer team of Galesburg-Augusta High School supporters that designed and built the high school tennis courts and athletic fields at what is now the site of the Galesburg-Augusta Primary School. He was also instrumental in starting the Galesburg Ambulance Service. A farmer at heart, Ed enjoyed gardening at Friendship Village and tending to its nature perserve. Preceding him in death were his beloved wife of 63 years, Margean Gladysz on April 1, 2014; his parents; four brothers, Victor, Arthur, Andrew and Gerald Gladysz; and two sisters Rita Gladysz Meconi and Josephine Gladysz. He is survived by son, Dr. John Andrew Gladysz and daughter-in-law, Dr. Janet Bluemel of College Station, TX; daughter, Margean Victoria Gladysz of Tinton Falls, NJ; his sister, Sister Angelette Gladysz of Cleveland, OH; and a number of nieces and nephews. In accordance with his wishes, cremation has taken place and there will be no services. Memorial donations can be made to the
