Janet Barnes

Janet Barnes, age 86, passed away Wednesday, July 16, 2014 at Meadow Woods Nursing and Rehabilitation Center. Janet was born May 20, 1928 in Chicago, the daughter of Leonard and Jeannette Harritt. Janet retired from Borgess Hospital where she had also attended nursing school. She enjoyed woodworking, watching her birds and especially loved spending time with her grand and great-grandchildren. Janet also enjoyed volunteering at the Depot Museum. Surviving are her three children, Toni Ann Barnes of Mattawan, Tina (Jim) Greene of Bloomingdale, Leonard (Susan) Barnes of Allegan; six grandchildren, Kim (Manuel) Sanchez, Jim (DeAnn) Greene, Trina (Bill) Furlo, Kristin (Kevin) Reynolds, Leonard James (Liz Peterson) and Heather Lynn Barnes; 12 great-grandchildren, Emerson, Matthew, Jessica, Marissa, Kaytlen, Megan, Lindsey, Corbyn, William, Gracelyn, Zachary, and Bradley. She was preceded in death by her husband, Howard; a sister and brother-in-law, Audrey (Frank) Brady; and a niece, Janet Brady. The family will meet friends on Tuesday from 11 AM until time of funeral services at 1 PM, Pastor Josh Odell officiating, at the BLOOMINGDALE CHAPEL, D. L. Miller Funeral Home. Interment will follow in Ft. Custer National Cemetery. The family suggests memorial contributions be made to the American Alzheimer's Association.
