Shirley Rose DeJong

DEJONG, SHIRELY Hudsonville Shirley Rose DeJong, at the age of 95, passed into the presence of Jesus Christ, her Savior, on July 15, 2014 at the Sarah Todd Memorial Home in Carlisle, PA. Shirley was born in Grand Rapids, MI and lived 93 years in the Grand Rapids area. Two years ago she was moved to Harrisburg, PA, where she was cared for by her daughter, Sharon Commons. She was preceded in death by her husband, Marion DeJong; her son, Mark DeJong. Surviving are her son, Ronald and Doris DeJong of Cedar Springs, MI; her daughter, Sharon and Bill Commons of Harrisburg, PA; her seven grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; four great-great-grandchildren; many nieces and nephews. Shirley was an active member of Grace Community Church in Hudsonville for well over 50 years. She loved her family and church and was a faithful servant of Jesus Christ whom she loved most of all. Funeral services for Shirley will be held on Sunday, July 20, at 3 PM at the VanderLaan Funeral Home, 4917 32nd Ave. Hudsonville, MI 49426, with Shirley's son-in-law, Rev. William Commons and Shirley's son, Rev. Ronald DeJong officiating. Interment Grandville Cemetery. Relatives and friends may meet with the family at the VanderLaan Funeral Home on Saturday, July 19, from 6-8 PM. Memorial contributions may be made to Mel Trotter Ministries.
