Margaret Jeanne Mordaunt Dursum

Aug. 22, 1943 — June 5, 2014

TRAVERSE CITY — Margaret “Jeanne” Dursum died peacefully after a long, chronic and short, acute battle with dementia at Grand Traverse Pavilions of Traverse City. Jeanne was born on Aug. 22, 1943, in Ames, Iowa, the daughter of Mrs. Ted and Dr. Richard Mordaunt.

She was a fun-loving, smart, beautiful woman who studied interior design and then became an American Airlines stewardess, flying the prestigious Dallas to New York route.

But her best achievement was the birth of her children, “The Artist,” “The Philosopher” and “The Adventurer.” Rachel Butler Dennehy inherited Jeanne’s artistic ability and pure joy for life. Keelan Butler inherited her desire to seek out the “right” way to walk in the world, and Matthew, son of William Dursum, leaves no stone unturned as he travels the world teaching English and surfing “big waves.” Jeanne also had three stepchildren, Heather, Sarah and William, who also loved her very much.

Jeanne was preceded in death by her parents and beloved brother, Dick Mordaunt, of Cedar Rapids, Iowa.

Jeanne is survived by her sister, Cindy Mordaunt Rosborough, who loves her very much; and her husband, Bill Dursum, who loves her more.

Many thanks are extended to all the staff at the Pavilions in Traverse City and Hospice of Michigan.

Private family celebrations of her life are scheduled in Traverse City and in Nevada, Iowa.

In death as in life, she gave it her all.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Grand Traverse Pavilions Scholarship Fund, 1000 Pavilions Circle, Traverse City, MI 49684; or to the Hospice of Michigan, 10850 E. Traverse Hwy., Traverse City, MI 49684.
