The funeral home was opened in 1940 at its current location by Paul and Alice Wachterhauser. There were a number of improvements and additions over the years and in about 1981 they sold the funeral home to David Brietzke. In 1997 he sold the funeral home to the Alderwoods Group, and in 1998 they hired Wayne B. McWilliams to manage the funeral home. In November of 2004 Wayne purchased the funeral home and currently is making numerous updates, including making the facility barrier free, adding a parking lot, new rest rooms, and redecorating.
It was just the opportunity and challenge Wayne was looking for. The ability to restore the luster back not only to the facility but to the quality of funeral service that only someone with passion could accomplish. In just five years Wayne with the help of his wife Karen has seen the funeral home double the number of families they serve. Their dedication, sweat and passion have established the McWilliams funeral home as a leader in the community. Wayne sees providing Life Stories as another addition to the family friendly, homey atmosphere he and Karen have created at the funeral home.
The funeral home in Posen was established around 1965 by Peter Gatzke. About 1984 David Brietzke bought the funeral home, and it was included in the sale to the Alderwoods Group in 1997, and subsequently to Wayne McWilliams in 2004. Under Wayne's direction the facility has seen new furniture, a new heating & cooling system, new roof, new lighting system, and complete painting inside and out. Future plans include some additional inside decorating, paving the parking lot and landscaping.
