Life Story / Obituary
Melvin D. Jensen, age 83, of Bonita Springs, FL. formerly of Herscher, IL. passed away on Thursday, May 24, 2012 at VNA Hospice in Valparaiso, IN. He was born on August 27, 1928 in Kankakee, IL. the son of Ingvart and Mabel (Yeates) Jensen. He served his country in the United States Army during the Korean War. On November 10, 1956 in Bonfield, IL. Melvin married Mae Gross. Melvin farmed for 45 plus years in Herscher and Bonfield retiring in 1994. He was a 29 year Veteran of the Herscher Fire Dept., a member of the Lions Club, American Legion, Moose Lodge, Herscher United Methodist Church, Senior Citizens Board, Herscher Townhouse Board, coached in Herscher Little League, enjoyed playing Sudoku, games on the computer, floating around in the pool, and especially enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren Zack and Nick.
Melvin is survived by his daughter Michelle (Thomas) Golab of Portage, IN., grandchildren Zachary and Nicholas Golab of Portage, IN., a sister-in-law Irene Jensen and Lois Jensen both of Bonfield, IL. and several nieces and nephews.
He is preceded in death by his wife Mae (October 18, 2002), parents, four brothers; Arthur, Clarence, Dale, William, two sisters; Lucille Grob and Emily McCoy.
A time of gathering will take place on Tuesday, May 29, 2012 from 4pm-8pm at Schreffler Life Story Funeral Homes Herscher Chapel.
A funeral service will be held on Wednesday, May 30, 2012 at 11am at Schreffler Life Story Funeral Homes Herscher Chapel. Interment will follow in Limestone Cemetery, Limestone, Illinois
